We have compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions to help make your experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Whether you are considering enrolling your child in one of our programs or you are a current participant seeking more information, these FAQs are designed to provide you with quick answers to your inquiries. What ages do you serve at Gather + Grow Wisconsin? Currently, we offer programs for children 4-6 and 7-9 years old. Each program is tailored to fit the developmental needs and interests of different age groups. In the future, we do hope to expand our program to include 10-12 year olds, if the interest is there!

Can parents/caregivers stay during the program? Absolutely! We allow you to choose what works best for your family. Parents/caregivers can stay and participate with their child, or they can hang out on the grounds and spend time outdoors while their child is participating in the program. We also offer drop off style!

What about accidents/safety? At Gather + Grow Wisconsin, we spend a great deal of time learning about our environment and safety. All staff are trained in First Aid and are equipped with a cell phone and first aid kit at all times. Teachers are vigilant and pay close attention to each child and maintain a safe distance. If there is an accident of any kind, a full report will be taken with caregivers notified at the end of the day, or sooner if necessary. Due to the nature of our program, the children are given the instruction, space and time to practice real-life risk assessments, gain gross motor skills, body awareness and more understanding of their own physical limits. These factors alone decrease the risk of injury in our environment and set a foundation for proprioception, long-term self-awareness and overall safety in the outdoors.

What are your class sizes? Class sizes are kept small to ensure quality learning experiences and meaningful interactions with nature. We have at least a 1:10 staff to child ratio. There will always be two adults present every day (facilitator and parent volunteer or teacher assistant) even if there is less than 10 kids.

Is this program State Licensed? No, due to the structure and nature of our program, it is exempt from mandatory licenses. Our program offers an opportunity for social group meetings/activities and allows children to gain various new skills. Although we are not licensed, we still follow many licensing guidelines such as staff background checks, training in CPR and First Aid, and experience working with children. We also maintain safe child to staff ratios, follow a nature based curriculum which includes enrichment activities and opportunity for socialization, and have standard emergency procedures.

Do you cancel for bad weather? The health and safety of our students and staff is our utmost priority. We assess weather conditions before class and if we ever feel like it is unsafe to hold class (strong winds, poor road conditions, lightning, extreme cold), we will cancel class and contact families as soon as possible. We do follow the local School District rules for weather closure in the area our program is held. If the School District is closed due to weather, we will be closed as well. We will notify families of a cancellation in a timely manner.

Is Gather + Grow Wisconsin a good fit for my child? Spending time outdoors benefits everyone, year-round. We encourage families to explore and learn together. While our programs are designed to be inclusive and adaptable, it is essential for children to be able to follow instructions in natural settings and for parents to ensure their children are dressed appropriately for the weather. If you are unsure whether our program meets your needs, please contact us with your questions. We also recommend scheduling a tour prior to enrollment!
